 Meet Jennilee

As a young girl I loved to visit my grandmother, who lived just a short distance from me. My grandmother was a professional seamstress; she designed wedding gowns but my favorite creations were the costumes she designed for the local ballet. My curiosity, wonder and excitement lead me to sketches of Snow White, Cinderella and the Sugar Plum Fairy which I could look at for hours on end. The costumes were especially intriguing! The texture and pattern of the fabric, the details of the costumes were stunning---silky smooth satins and delicate lace---just beautiful! My grandmother passed her love of sewing on to me. :)

I approach design today with the same curiosity, wonder and excitement I had as a child. I can sit in my sewing room for hours on end designing, creating and stitching. I find inspiration for designs everywhere, from the way a bow is tied to the way a pattern is pieced together. I love to cut out pages of magazines and glue them into my design idea book which is overflowing with all kinds of ideas. Flipping through the pages of my design idea book I think, "How can I put that into stitches? Or my latest question: "Can that be done in the hoop?"

January 2010

I can't believe it is 2010 already! Where does time go? My son will be 24 years old on Valentine's Day...Happy Birthday Bobby!

I can't believe I have a 24 year old...like I say, where does time go????

I'm not a big fan of new years resloutions, so I never make them. I feel like I should be the best person I can be every single day....not just for three weeks in January....lol.

So what is in store for the new year?

More in the hoop fun I hope and more creativity in designs! I love to write tutorials, so I am hoping to add a lot more free tutorials to the web site too.

I also love to creatively package things too. I hope my ideas, give you a few new ideas, on ways to package and present items for a craft show or gift giving.

September 2009

I just returned from a much needed beach vacation. After 3 computer crashes last month, laying on the beach soaking up the warm sun was just what I needed. I came home completely refreshed and full of new design ideas.

Of course I took Mr. Wappy Hands with me and took some awesome photos of him at the beach.

August 2009

I opened the mailbox the other day and my Designs In Machine Embroidery magazine was here. Yay! I love that magazine for ideas and inspiration.

I excitedly ripped off it's plastic bag cover and what do I see?

One of my designs has made the cover! Oh my gosh! Now that is exciting! It's the July / August 2009 issue:

Yep, that's the Girls Are Weird Lower Case Applique Font on the pillow on the right.

May 2009

Okay, okay...I know I haven't updated my blog in a long time. Gosh, where does the time go? I've been so busy this past year with new ideas, new designs and the greatest of all....a new graduate!

Congratulations Amy "Class of 2009"

Amy is my youngest and will be heading off to college in the fall. She's excited and I'm excited for her too.

I "pinky promise" I will update you soon with all that has happened with DigiStitches in the last year as well as the new things we have planned for this year. ;)

Hugs,

Jennilee

March 2008

Ellie and I survived the Blizzard of 2008!

Geesh! I thought it would never stop snowing. We got 20.4 inches in two days...and although it does snow where I live, it really never snows like that. Ellie and I just hunkered down in the sewing room (with Girls Scout cookies in hand)!

Actually, it was a great opportunity to get a lot of sewing/embroidery done as my husband and son were shoveling snow for hours on end which gave me lots of time to do whatever  I wanted without them underfoot...lol.

The snow disappeared pretty quickly when it warmed up later in the week and the sound of the melting snow trickling down the copper roof reminded me of a babbling brook singing it's spring song. I can hear the birds outside singing their spring songs too, beckoning warm weather to arrive. Like the birds, I think we are all ready for warm sunshine!

And, yes! The signs of Spring are here!  The bulbs I planted last year are peeking up through the ground and in just a few short weeks they will be in full bloom with their glorious pinks, whites, lavenders and greens.

Of course, being impatient as always, I am forcing Hyacinths and Paperwhites indoors...this year I thought I would try forcing Forsythia branches too. Isn't Forsythia beautiful? I love the buttery yellow color of it's delicate blossoms almost as much as I love the cheerful daffodils.

Easter sure is early this year! Good thing I started working on Easter designs way back in December or I would have never gotten them done!

Today,  you can find me up in my sewing room as I am finishing  a First Communion Banner that several of you have asked me for. I remember my daughter's First Communion fondly; what a special and joyous occassion in a young person's life.

I have a lot of new designs planned and I am putting them into stitches one by one.

I can hardly wait to show you some of the fun things I have been working on!

Hugs,

Jennilee

February 2008

Today, like any day I find myself in my sewing room surrounded by wonderful fabrics, a vast array of colored pencils, sketch pads, Post-it notes (heart shaped for Valentine's Day) and my dog Ellie who loves to chase bobbins around the room. It's a beautiful winter day, the sun is glistening on the new fallen snow and birds are coming to and from the bird feeder, happy to have found a meal in my back yard. Several projects are scattered about my cutting table in various stages of completion--one is almost finished but got pushed to the side when a new idea beckoned me. Thats what happens when ideas start coming just as fast as I can jot them down.

I am just now pouring a second cup of coffee and I want to get started on the new idea I thought of last night. I'm so excited about it I could "twirl" (more on twirling later) as I can't wait to put this idea into stitches for you. I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoy creating them for you.

Hugs,

Jennilee
